James Buchanan-Michaelson is a member of RBS Coutts's Swiss executive committee and is the Branch Manager for RBS Coutts in Geneva. He is responsible for private banking for the UK, Iberia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa.
Prior to moving to Switzerland James was with Coutts in London, where he established the Coutts Private Office, specialising in managing Coutts' relationships with Ultra High Net-worth clients.
He joined the bank in April 2005, having been a Senior Banker at JPMorgan Private Bank and prior to the merger with The Chase Manhattan Bank having been the Chief Operating Officer for Chase's private banking operations in Europe. He has been advising and managing relationships with ultra high net-worth clients for the last nine years, particularly specialising in clients who are going through transition events, such as a sale of a business or inter generational transfer. Before joining the private bank he worked for Chemical Bank and The Chase Manhattan Bank in corporate finance and global markets for 13 years, specialising in managing relationships with insurance companies, asset management firms and pension funds. James's career started in Eurobond originations and derivatives.
